I watched this movie last night (a friend from Twitter pointed me here afterwards). I really loved the first movie, but I wasn't expecting much for the third one considering what the second was like. Your notes and analysis are spot on. Just like the propaganda advertisements for The Federation that have always been a part of the SST series, this particular movie was like a propaganda film for christianity. However, if that's the case, then what was with the gratuitous semi-nude scenes when Rico is recruiting for the Marauder Squad? I'm really not sure what the studio behind this was trying to do. Was it to just make a good sci-fi movie from a series that had been killed off too early? Nope, failed - the bad CGI, worse acting and even worse fake accents make this a B-minus movie at best. Was it to show that christianity/theism-as-government is the only way to win wars, even when used as a political tool? Erm, nope, the "saved" humans come off as crazy and the gov't figures using god as a recruiting tool come of as, well, governmenty. Was it to show that christianity *IS* crazy and atheism is at least practical? Nope, not unless you already knew that to begin with. In any case, the goal fell flat on its face. There's just no redeeming value for this movie. Well, gratuitous semi-nude scene aside.

I didn't know about the Jewish commandment. If you find a referrence I'd be interested but in any case, the Jews cannot convert others outside of family bonds to their religion so I think their memetic advantage is really small, as can be seen by their worldwide numbers.

The problem with the Muslims who follow the Hadiths is that this is explicitly endorsed, as opposed to the Christians who must go against the commandments.

I love this movie, best thing is that cool song, but the story is interesting enough for me… And there were spaceships and bugs, what more could you ask for?? Only a shame the bugs dont win
